For many of us, winter means having to get up at the crack of dawn to shovel our driveways just so we can back-out and get to work in the morning. As depressing as that might sound, it’s reality. Winter is here and if you haven’t shoveled yet, the snows coming so you’ve got to be prepared. Make sure that you’ve got your supplies in close reach so you don’t have dig around for them at 5am. Also, make sure you’ve got the proper apparel so you don’t freeze your arse off in the cold. If you aren’t sure what constitutes proper snow-shoveling apparel, check out my tips below.
Don’t think that your typical winter ware is going to cut it shoveling. Snow shoveling is labor intensive, and you’re guaranteed to sweat at least a little. Because of this, you will want to wear loose fitting clothing. Sweatpants and sweatshirts are a great choice. They will keep your body warm, while allowing the moisture to escape rather than freeze.
Loose-fitting, warm clothing is just the first layer. Next you’ve got to bundle up with warm, water-resistant outerwear. Choosing a thick windbreaker to go over your sweatshirt is the best choice. It will keep you warm and dry, but you won’t have to worry about overheating. You will also want to wear water-resistant snow pants if you can.
After you’re are all bundled up, you’ll want to top the outfit off with a pair of thick, water resistant gloves, a thick knitted hat and a pair of light weight ladies wellington boots to keep your feet warm and dry.
